ABSTRACT This work has been undertaken with the object of establishing the exact method of formation of the operculum and gill-chambers in the tadpole. It is also intended to follow up a suggestion of 0. H. Latter (1923) that branchial respiration continues after metamorphosis by means of paired apertures immediately in front of the bases of the freed anterior limbs.
