OPPRESSION AGAINST WOMEN IN JOSEPH RUBEN’S SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY MOVIE: A FEMINIST PERSPECTIVE

The objective of the study is to analyze the oppression against women in Sleeping with the Enemy movie by using feminist perspective viewed from Radical Feminist. The major problem of this study is how is oppression against women reflected in Joseph Ruben’s Sleeping with the Enemy movie viewed from Radical Feminist. This research is aimed to analyze the movie through its elements and to analyze the oppression against women in Sleeping with the Enemy movie based on feminist perspective. This research paper uses qualitative method which employs the method of collecting, describing, classifying and analyzing the data which then drawing conclusion. The object of the study is Laura in Joseph Ruben’s Sleeping with the Enemy movie. Published and distributed by 20th Century Fox. The secondary data sources including references and materials related to the study whether picking from books and/or internet. Methods of data collection are library research and documentation. Method of data analysis is descriptive analysis. The conclusion of the study depicts the oppression against women in Sleeping with the Enemy movie which presented by Joseph Ruben as his response to America’s society in the late of 20th century. He shows the lack of women’s position, role, rights, and participation caused by oppression. He uses this movie as a ‘wake up call’ for people who concern to this America’s society latent thread so they will be more aware and make movements against it.
