[Vaginal tubal ligation as an alternative to laparoscopic tubal sterilization].

The technique of tubal ligation via the vagina is described and experience with this technique in 50 patients reported. Approach is through the rear wall of the vagina and the tubes are held with a clamp followed by ligation by Pommeroys method. A Hegar probe inserted into the uterus permits movement of the latter as needed. Operation time is 10-20 minutes. No complications were observed even though other procedures were carried out at the same time in 18 patients. Hospitalization time was 3-6 days; some patients could be released on the 2nd day. The low complication rate and the absence of laparotomy wound are advantages of this method.
