Abstract

Changning County met the basic standards for elimination of malaria in 1993. A total of 268 cases was reported from 1994 to 2008,of which 197 were vivax malaria (73.51%),62 were falciparum malaria (23.13%),1 was mixed infection (0.37%),and 8 could not be differentiated (2.99%);43 were autochthonous infection (16.04%) and 225 were imported (83.96%). Monitoring of Anopheles vectors identified 18 kinds of anopheles, such as Anopheles sinensis,Anopheles kunmingensis, and Anopheles minimus. A. sinensis was the main vector found (72.56%). County Changning had a consistently low incidence of malaria epidemics, most of which were imported, but autochthonous infections tended to increase. Controls on migrant workers and monitoring of the population density of Anopheles vectors should be enhanced.
