Abstract

S>/sup 60/Co gamma -irradiation of crystalline alpha -lactose monohydrate yields 5-deoxylactobionic acid with a G-value of about 40 (dose 4 x 10/sup 20/ eV/g; dose rate 1.3 x 10/sup 18/ eV/(g x min)). A 60% yield was obtained at a total conversion of 12%. (GE)
