Abstract

All living organisms are composed of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and the so-called minor elements sulfur, potassium, molybdenum, boron, etc. Carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen are easily available in nature. However, nitrogen, available at high level in the atmosphere (78 percent), is blocked for direct utilization by the living organisms. Only a very small fraction of global nitrogen is available for plant utilization.
