Abstract
Effects of glutathione with different concentrations on active oxygen scavenging system in leaves of pepper seedlings under autotoxicity were investigated. The results indicated that the activities of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, ascorbate peroxidase and ascorbic acid content were apparently decreased, the activities of glutathione reductase and the contents of glutathione were increased at first and then decreased, and malondialdehyde content was continuously elevated after aqueous leave extracts treatment. However, the activities of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, ascorbate peroxidase and glutathione reductase and the contents of glutathione and ascorbic acid were apparently increased and malondialdehyde content was decreased under treated by glutathione of 30 mg·L-1 and 50 mg·L-1 compared with those treated by water or aqueous leave extracts only. The above results showed that leave extracts could leaded to autotoxicity, while the exogenous glutathione could increased the activity of protective enzymes and the content of antioxidant substances, decreased the level of lipid peroxidation. There was certain alleviate effects of exogenous GSH on the two varieties of pepper seedlings under autotoxicity.Among the glutathione concentrations used,30 and 50 mg·L-1 were the optimum concentrations for 'Longjiao No.5' and 'Qicunhong',respectively.
