Abstract

We present a simple variant of the constituent quark model which leads to an improved agreement with the magnetic moments of the baryon octet. In addition, our model reproduces the effective ${\mathit{g}}_{\mathit{A}}$/${\mathit{g}}_{\mathit{V}}$ values of the weak decays within the octet, and is compatible with recent measurements of the quark contribution to the spin content of the nucleon.
