Abstract
A compendium of four years' work in the measurement and modeling of the Earth's gravity field shows steady progress in the improvement of spherical harmonic expansions and includes continued analysis of a yet‐to‐be realized dedicated space gravity mission. Newton's gravitational law was put to the test, the airborne gravity gradiometer was field tested, and airborne gravimetry is achieving respectable results. The review covers work performed at U.S. institutions and published during the quadrennium 1987–1990.
