On the bulk yields of nucleosynthesis from massive stars

Open publisher page 131 citations

Abstract

The bulk yields considered are related to the production of those nuclei which comprise most of the mass of newly synthesized material. It is illustrated how stellar evolutionary calculations and stellar observations can be combined to estimate the bulk yields of nucleosynthesis from massive stars. The ejection mechanism is considered along with the composition at core collapse and the mass in a condensed remnant. The bulk yield of nucleosynthesis for a group of stars is examined, taking into account the initial mass function, the production matrix, and the predicted yield from a generation of stars. The present rate of nucleosynthesis in the solar neighborhood is discussed, giving attention to local stellar death rates, the estimated present rate of nucleosynthesis, and implications for galactic models.
