Abstract
Characteristic features of nuclear collisions at high energies are summarized. One fundamental result of investigation of nuclear collisions is the confirmation of multiple meson production. The process can be divided into two stages: (1) the stage of collision during which excited systems are produced and (2) the decay of the excited systems with emission of mesons and other particles. It is concluded that, in collision, nucleons behave like heavy point particles surrounded by pi -meson fields weakly bound to them. There is evidence that at moderate energies of colliding nucleons one excited center is produced, whereas two excited centers are produced at higher energies. In both cases the evolution and decay of the excited center can be described by Heisenberg-type hydrodynamics. (A.G.W.)
