Abstract
The total energy system involves using a gas turbine to drive an electric generator while simultaneously using the turbine exhaust to heat a boiler to provide steam for heating or cooling. When operated at full electrical and thermal loads a total-energy system can produce electricity at 55 percent efficiency or higher. The savings in electric power generating costs possible to a user with a constant demand for both electricity and steam, e.g., a hospital, are discussed. (LCL)
