Abstract

The experiment was conducted in two locations; one in Cotton Research, Training and Seed Multiplication Farm, Sreepur, Gazipur and another in Cotton Research Center, Mahiganj, Rangpur during 15th June of kharif season in 2007 to find out the yield and quality of six cotton genotypes as affected by population density. Five short durated and short statured cotton genotypes (NAM-77, C-2602, BC-0342, BC-0406 and CB-10) along with cultuvar CB-9 were evaluated to find out the maximum yield potential in three different spacings viz. 90cm × 45cm (24692 plants ha−1), 75cm × 45cm (29630 plants ha−1) and 60cm × 45cm (37037 plants ha−1). Maximum seed cotton yield 2.93 ton ha−1 was recorded when the spacing was 75cm × 45cm for all the genotypes at both locations. The lowest cotton yield (0.96 ton ha−1) was obtained in genotype C-2602 with 90 cm × 45 cm spacing at Sreepur and 1.35 ton ha−1 with the spacing 60cm × 45cm at Rangpur.
