Straight coloanal anastomosis, colonic J pouch or transverse coloplasty for reconstruction after rectal resection for rectal cancer

This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (Intervention). The objectives are as follows: Primary objective: To determine which coloanal reconstructive technique provides the best functional outcome after rectal resection for rectal cancer. Secondary objective: To compare straight, colonic J pouch and transverse coloplasty coloanal anastomosis techniques in terms of postoperative complications such as mortality, anastomotic leak, wound infection, anastomotic stricture and pneumonia.
