Abstract

Abstract Thromboembolic complications are one of the most common preventable causes of morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing hip and knee joint replacement. Without prophylaxis, the overall incidence of deep vein thrombosis is about 50%, with proximal thrombosis accounting for 15%. Knowing that proximal vein thrombosis usually causes fatal pulmonary embolism, orthopaedic surgeon should protect patients from the risk of postoperative thromboembolic events.
