Abstract

An experiment was undertaken on broiler chicks to evaluate the combination effect of certain vegetable protein supplement, sesame cake (SC), mustard cake (MC), guar meal touted (GMT) and sunflower seed meal (SM) combining three or four sources at a time. A total of 13 experimental diets based on these supplements wre formulated replacing groundnut cake (GNC) in the control. The feeding trial was conducted on 546 day old broiler chicks in starter (0–6 wk) and finisher (6–8 wk) phases. The body weight gain for different treatments were similar in both the phases. Treatment means for feed intake on various diets were significantly (P<0.05) different. However, the feed conversion ratio for different treatments did not differ significantly in both the phases. The cost of production per kg live weight was lowest on the control, closely followed by T8 and T6.
