Abstract

This study explored ways in which timber bridge maintenance could be optimized by addressing several specific areas, including: the specification of bridge timber, the method of procuring bridge timber, appraisal of existing condition of timber bridges, an engineered approach to the detailing of timber bridges, waterproofing and preservative treatment methods, and the use of alternative timber materials in maintenance of timber bridges.
