Abstract
A field experiment was conducted during winter (rabi) seasons of 2003-04 and 2004-05 to evaluate the effect of integrated nutrient management in brown sarson (Brassica campestris L.) and its residual effect on succeeding aromatic rice (land race).Application of recommended fertilizer dose of 60:13:17 kg NPK/ha in conjunction with 1 kg boron, 10 tonnes farmyard manure/ha and Azotobacter gave maximum brown sarson yield, oil content and N-uptake. Application of farmyard manure or farmyard manure + boron and Azotobacter also increased nutrient uptake and improved soil fertility over the time in terms of available nutrients and increased soil Azotobacter population. Integrated nutrient management, especially with farmyard manure resulted in significant residual effect on succeeding rice crop yield. The most economical treatment in this cropping sequence was application of 60:13:17 kg NPK/ha+20 tonnes farmyard manure/ha, followed by 60:13:17 kg NPK/ha +10 tonnes farmyard manure/ha and 60:13:17 kg NPK/ha +1 kg boron/ha +10 tonnes FYM/ha +Azotobacter.
