Abstract
This paper analyzed the major transportation energy and the mainstream powertrain products of passenger cars in the next 30 yearsl, eading to a conclusion that the development of gasoline engine technologies is important.Gasoline en-gines,especially homogeneous charge compression ignition(HCCI)engines,Because the constrains on air-fuel ratio and compression ratio of a gasoline engine due to the need of spark ignition and flame propagation have been removed,an HCCI engine can significantly improve vehicle fuel economy by more than 25%.Combustion timing of an HCCI engine can be controlled and HCCI;hence an be applied in vehicle.Engine technology RD in China is not well established. To avoid being in trouble within 10 years,Chinese automakers should establish engine technology RD.
