Abstract
This report describes a continuous hypersonic wind tunnel which was put into operation at the U. S. Naval Ordnance Laboratory in 1963. The tunnel uses nitrogen which is heated to 5000 R by a graphite resistance heater. The Mach number capability is from 12 to 18 with test section Reynolds numbers from 2.6 x 10,000 to 7 x 100,000 per foot. Operations so far have been restricted to the neighborhood of Mach 17.5 and 100,000 per foot in Reynolds number. The report describes the design and operation of the wind tunnel and gives some of the initial experimental results. (Author)
