Abstract

Public transport in India is considered as a means of transport for the labor class and mostly used by middle class sections of the society and to some extent by school going children due to the subsidy provided to this section of society. This perception need to be changed in order to plan and operate services required for different sections of public living in ur- ban areas. A scientific evaluation of economics of different categories of public bus services helps in proper planning and provision of different categories of public bus services. This could be comprehensively achieved through the various subheads discussed in this chapter. The urban areas in India could be broadly divided into different categories based on the functionality of the city for the purpose of urban bus services.
