Multiple literacies in early childhood: What do families and communities think about their children's early literacy learning?

This article presents the findings of research that investigated literacy practices in homes and prior-to-school settings. The research was unique in its aim seek families' perspectives on their children's literacy practices during the years. The article explores family perspectives of their children's early literacy learning at home and in the prior-to-school setting. The authors suggest that there are disparities between children's literacies in prior-to-school settings the literacies of home/community in relation to diverse literacies such bi-literacy experiences, literacies of technology and popular culture.
