Abstract

We present a perspective of next generation mobile communication services and their characteristics. As a preliminary research work on next generation mobile communications and services, we exploit the next generation mobile services (Ryu, S. et al.,"The Fourth Generation Mobile Communication Services", Tech. Rep. TM200314228, ETRI, 2003). We define the next generation mobile services as the strata of services consisting of three different service levels: service areas; service functionalities; service technologies. We derive these service levels by means of a scenario based analysis. Finally, we propose a conceptual network architecture that can support next generation mobile services by placing network functions and service elements within the network.
