Abstract

IntroductionAcute-onset postoperative endophthalmitis is characterized by marked inflammation of intraocular fluids and tissues.Despite appropriate therapeutic intervention, endophthalmitis may result in severe visual loss.Postoperative endophthalmitis has been reported following every type of ocular surgery but because cataract surgery is the most commonly performed type of ocular surgery, this setting is the most frequent cause in clinical practice.
