Field Evaluation of Some New Insecticides against Brinjal Shoot and Fruit Borer, Leucinodes orbonalis (Guen.)

Abstract

Emamectin benzoate 5 SG, lufenuron 10 EC, spinosad 2.5 SC, indoxacarb 14.5 SC and methoxyfenozide 24 SC were evaluated against brinjal shoot and fruit borer, Leucinodes orbomalis (Guen.) in a field experiment conducted during kharif, 2006. When sprayed at 60, 75 and 90 days after transplanting, all the insecticidal treatments were significantly effective in reducing shoot and fruit borer infestation resulting in increasing fruit yield over the untreated control. Among different insecticides, the lowest mean shoot as well as fruit infestation (7.47 and 9.88%) was recorded in the plots treated with spinosad 2.5 SC (50 g ai ha−1) followed by indoxacarb 14.5 SC 50 g ai ha−1 (8.89 and 13.13%), emamectin benzoate 5 SG 15 g ai ha−1 (10.95 and 16.66%), respectively. The highest marketable fruit yield of 143.50 q ha−1 was recorded in spinosad treatment followed by indoxacarb and emamectin benzoate with 126.90 and 121.30 q ha−1, respectively.
