Abstract
The efficacy of three commonly used coccidiostats viz. maduramicin at 5ppm, salinomycin at 66ppm and lasalocid sodium at 75ppm was studied in experimentally induced E. maxima (50,000 sporulated oocyst) coccidiosis in broiler chickens. The evaluation was based on percent weight gain, feed conversion ratio, oocyst index, mortality percent and lesion score by using global index formula. It was observed that salinomycin and lasalocid sodium were 79% and 72.6% effective as per the global index value indicating limited efficacy. In the case of maduramicin treated group partial resistance (GI 68%) was observed. Based on the findings of present study it was concluded that salinomycin at 66ppm is still effective for E.maxima coccidiosis in chicken.
