Approach to Diagnosis of Peripheral Nerve Disease

The clinical and etiological diagnosis of peripheral nerve disease can be challenging, but can usually be accomplished with a careful history, a detailed neurological and general medical examination, electrodiagnostic testing, and judicious laboratory evaluation. This chapter familiarizes the reader with an approach to the diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy, illustrated by case examples, and complements the information contained in other chapters detailing specific disorders.
