Abstract
WITH THE EXAMPLES OF AIRCRAFT AND TRAFFIC NOISE, POSSIBLE APPROACHES TO NOISE CONTROL ARE EXAMINED, INCLUDING PHYSICAL AND OPERATIONAL MODIFICATIONS OF THE NOISE SOURCE, MODIFICATION OF THE PATH OF NOISE PROPAGATION, AND MODIFICATION (OR RELOCATION) OF THE RECEIVER. METHODS FOR EVALUATING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THESE APPROACHES ARE DISCUSSED, AND SOME OF THE DIFFICULTIES INVOLVED IN IMPLEMENTING ANY NOISE CONTROL MEASURES ARE NOTED. /AUTHOR/
