Abstract

The expenditures to provide adequate volumes of suitable waters to supply more than 400 thermal recovery steam generators in California have been considerable, and additional expenditures are anticipated in order to maintain and expand existing operations. Private and public water systems have been constructed or enlarged and produced waters have been utilized to furnish feedwater requirements. Good quality-waters have been generally available in sufficient quantities in the Los Angeles basin and in the Coastal Region through the implementation of existing company-owned and public water systems. The water supply in the E. side of the San Joaquin Valley in most cases has been adequate through the utilization of company-owned and operated fresh-water systems and the treatment of produced water. The supply has been regionally scarce in the W. side of the San Joaquin Valley, but a system was completed by the West Kern County Water District in late 1967 to serve the Midway-Sunset, the McKittrick, and a portion of the Cymric fields, while the city of Coalinga recently approved a system which will provide municipal and industrial users in the Coalinga vicinity.
