Abstract

Abstract This article is focused on transmission line metamaterials, that is, metamaterials implemented by loading a host transmission line with reactive elements (capacitors, inductors, and/or resonators). It is mainly devoted to transmission line metamaterials exhibiting a composite right‐/left‐handed (CRLH) behavior, that is, supporting left‐handed (or backward) wave propagation in certain frequency bands and right‐handed (or forward) wave propagation in other frequency intervals. The analysis of these transmission lines (on the basis of the equivalent circuit models) and their main relevant applications are reviewed in this article.
