Abstract
Genotypic variability was studied and genotypic and phenotypic correlations were worked out in a collection of ninety varieties of Indian wheats, under irrigated conditions at Agricultural Research Station, Durgapura. Genetic coefficient of variation, heritability estimates and genetic advance were computed. Ears per plant, leaf area and grain yield showed high genetic coefficient of variation. Heritability estimates were found to be large for ear number, 100-grain weight, ear length, plant height, spikelets per ear and flowering days; moderate for grain yield and leaf area and low for grains per ear. Ears per plant, 100-grain weight and ear length were found to have a high heritability and a high genetic gain and as such these traits are of considerable value to the breeder for plant selection.
