Hydraulic characteristics of flow in a tidal inlet act an important role in morphological changes of the inlet. In normal conditions, inlet currents flush sediment out of the inlet to maintain its opening against longshore sediment transports that tend to close the inlet. The currents in the inlet are contributed by the tides and also from upstream river inflows as can be seen in many tidal inlets in tropical areas. Stability analysis for those tidal inlets can be done based on analytic solutions of inlet hydraulics. This paper presents a new analytic solution of tidal inlet hydraulics with inertia term and contribution of tributary inflow. The solution is compared with other studies. Based on the analytic solution, stability analysis for tidal inlets can be carried out.
