Abstract

During our initial isolation studies of several myotropic peptides from cockroach head extracts (Holman et al ., 1984), we observed that one of the fractions isolated from the µ-Bondapak phenyl separation system contained a material that suppressed the spontaneous contractile activity of the isolated cockroach hindgut in a reversible manner. A similar inhibitory response was previously observed with a cockroach hindgut extract (Holman and Cook, 1970). This report describes the isolation, structural identification, synthesis, and biological activity of this inhibitory peptide present in head extracts. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
