Abstract
During our initial isolation studies of several myotropic peptides from cockroach head extracts (Holman et al ., 1984), we observed that one of the fractions isolated from the µ-Bondapak phenyl separation system contained a material that suppressed the spontaneous contractile activity of the isolated cockroach hindgut in a reversible manner. A similar inhibitory response was previously observed with a cockroach hindgut extract (Holman and Cook, 1970). This report describes the isolation, structural identification, synthesis, and biological activity of this inhibitory peptide present in head extracts.
