Abstract
Abstract The General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a data bearer service for GSM and IS–136 cellular networks. Its packet–oriented radio transmission technology enables efficient and simplified wireless access to Internet protocol–based networks and services. After an explanation of the fundamental features of GPRS, this article describes the network components, services, protocols (e.g. session and mobility management), packet routing, air interface (channels, multiple access, channel coding), and security aspects.
