Abstract

The tutorial focuses on evolution of the Java programming language into the version now referred to as Java 5 (J2SE 1.5). Particular emphasis will be on how the new capabilities of Java can enhance teaching of software development and data abstraction. The approach will be to compare and contrast Java 2 with Java 5 such that the participant may develop an appreciation for the value of the new features. Where appropriate, comparisons will also be made with C++.
