Abstract
The data from 1568 lactation records of 300 cows of Gir and its HF and Jersey crossbred were collected from BGM Cattle Breeding Farm, Kandiwali, Mumbai and analyzedfor genetic studies by least square technique. The average lactation milk yield and life time milk yield were found to be 2204.42 ± 21.94 kg and 11743.276 ± 247.78 kg respectively. The least square mean were 7.22 ± 0.06 kg and 5.55 ± 0.05 kg for milk yield per day of lactation length and milk yield per day of calving interval respectively. All the production traits were found significantly influenced by non genetic factors viz season, period and parity as well as genetic group of the cows. The highest lactation milk yield2775.41 ± 32.43kg and life time milkyield 15755.66 ± 433.75kg was found in HF ×Gir crosses followed by Jersey ×Gir and lowest estimate for all production traits in pure Gir animals.
