Abstract

Abstract The development of flowers and floral organs is directed by genetic programmes likely to be universal amongst the angiosperms. A simple model explaining how a small number of regulatory genes acting alone and in combination to specify the identity of the floral organs (sepals, petals, stamens and carpels) is supported by both molecular and genetic experiments in Arabidopsis .
