Abstract
Four Haryana male calves (1 yr; 97 kg) were fed berseem straw as a sole feed for a period of 1m. Although the DM intake (2.58±0.04 kg/100kg body weight, 81.11±2.6i g/kg0.75) was satisfactory, the CP digestibility (28.2611.36) was found quite low. The average values for DCP, TDN, NR, DE, ME, Ca and P contents in berseem straw were 1.17%, 46.21 %, 1:26.02, 2.03 Mcal/kg, 1.66 Mcal/kg. 11.4 g/kg and 1.13 g/kg respectively on DM basis. The calves consumed DM 2.50±0.22 kg, DCP 42.40±2.12g, TDN 1.17±0.08 kg. The results indicated that the berseem straw as such could not support the nutritional requirements of growing calves.
