Abstract

MARACAJA, P. B.; VARGAS-OSUNA, E. y SANTIAGO-ALVAREZ, C , 1994: Biological activity of Spodoptera littoralis nuclear polyhedrosis virus obtained from natural and alternate, Spodoptera exigua, hosts. Bol. San. Veg. Plagas, 20(2): 495-499. The productions per larva of the Spodoptera littoralis nuclear polyhedrosis virus obtained in S. littoralis and S. exigua, natural and alternate host respectively, were in the same order. Biological activities of the original inoculum and the viral products obtained from each host were determined on third-instar 5. littoralis larvae. No significant differences were found between the slopes of the regression lines log dose Probit mortality. The LD50 of the inoculum (4802 IB/larva) was significantly higher than ones obtained from S. littoralis (1323 IB/larva) and from S. exigua (1844 IB/larva), that were not significantly differents. On the bases of relative potencies, the products obtained from S. littoralis and S. exigua larvae were significantly more virulent (3,63 y 2,60, respectively) than the original inoculum.
