Study on the Orientalism in the Modern Society

In this 21 st century, as the international contacts are expanding globally, the generalization of fundamental values, such as human right and Democracy has being spread onto the whole earth. Meanwhile, there are many conflicts which broke out by the religious, ethnic, cultural differences happened, and in some of them we have witnessed the brutalities of human civilization. 'Orientalism' has appeared from the Occidental Christian world, and when the Christianity became the supreme religion under Roman empire in the latter days, the nearest Oriental influential group from the Mediterranean Sea was Islam. Originated from the book 〈Orientalism〉 by Edward Side, highly influential critics on the postcolonial culture, the term of 'Orientalism' means that Western society, that is West European or European society, exists within the boundary of the civilization but the other non western societies outside of the boundary are on the immature or uncivilized status. Criticisms on the definition has been constantly increasing until now. The discussions on the ways of overcoming the Eurocenturism become hot issues sometimes in Korean academic world. The influence of Orientalism has often found in Hollywood movies and even American animation films. Because of it, we sees the scars of Oreintalism not only in the views of western people but in our own views and the scars make us hurt other non European people in Korean society. Therefore, I will search some cases distorted by the Orientalism and give a warn message to the Orientals(including Asians Africans) who has been imitating the Western views uncritically because of the complex toward the Western World. And then I will also introduce some of the recent critical arguments on the Eurocenturism.
