Are social determinants of health the same as societal determinants of health?

Despite the widespread appeal of the phrase 'social determinants of health'; it erroneously suggests that health depends primarily on interrelationships among individuals. Inequities in health, however, involve systematic differences in health across population subgroups, thus changing the focus of influences from social interactions to societal characteristics.
