The sound transmission loss for aircraft noise is measured to determine the effectiveness of sound insulation of buildings. These measurements are usually conducted in a laboratory setting involving reverberation chambers. The problems encountered during conversion of the data from laboratory to field measurements of sound insulation are analyzed. It was found that it is not possible to explicitly include all of the details in conversions from the lab to field results.
