The Modern Practice of Adult Education: From Pedagogy to Andragogy

This book is a practical guide to the theory and practice of adult education (andragogy) as opposed to the teaching of children (pedagogy). Following the first chapter 'Preparing yourself to inquire', the book is set out in three parts. 'Part I - The emerging role and technology of adult education' contains the chapters: What is modern practice?; What is the role and mission of the adult educator?; and What is andragogy?. 'Part II - Organizing and administering comprehensive programs of adult education' contains the chapters: Establishing an organizational climate and structure; Assessing needs and interests in program planning; Defining purposes and objectives; Designing a comprehensive program; Operating a comprehensive program; and Evaluating comprehensive programs. 'Part III - Helping adults learn' contains the chapter: Designing and managing learning activities.
