Abstract

Districts of Chhattisgarh state (India) were surveyed for plant parasitic nematodes associated with various vegetable crop plants. Soil and root samples were collected from the rhizosphere of plants and nematodes isolated by Cobb's sieving and decanting method, followed by modified Baermann's funnel technique. Nine species of nematodes spread over six genera, were found associated with tomato, beans, brinjal, cowpea and bottle gourd. Meloidogyne javanica, M. incognita, M. arenaria and Meloidogyne spp. were found to be prevalent in the Durg district. The reniform nematode, Rotylenchulus reniformis was prevalent in Bilaspur district and M. javanica in Jashpur district. R. reniformis and T. indicus are most frequent species (both 53.85%) followed by M. javanica (46.15%), Pratylenchus spp. (30.77%) and Helicotylenchus spp. and Tylenchidae least frequent (both 7.69%). Highest prominence value was observed for M. javanica (198.60) followed by M. incognita (191.18) and Meloidogyne spp. (190.17). Helicotylenchus spp. (17.33) and Tylenchidae (6.93) are least prevalent species.
