Abstract
Abstract Chromatophores from the photosynthetic bacterium, Rhodospirillum rubrum, have been prepared which completely lack an energy-linked transhydrogenase activity while retaining maximal photophosphorylation rates. Transhydrogenation is reconstituted in deficient particles by the addition of a partially purified soluble protein factor isolated from R. rubrum cells.
