Abstract

This paper analyses the determinants of Australia-East Asia trade flows, examines the impact of the Asian crisis on such trade flows, and explores the potential for further expansion of trade flows between Australia and East Asia. The analysis is based on modified gravity trade models. Separate models are estimated for Australias merchandise exports to and merchandise imports from nine East Asian countries, using pooled data for the period 1979-98.
