Abstract
Prismatic panels are used with windows to improve the uniformity ratio of illuminance and interior daylighting distribution under direct sunlit conditions. The prismatic panels admit skylight and sunlight, and reflects into deep interior space. The prismatic panel would have greater effect on the interior daylighting condition under clear sky which has both skylight and sunlight than overcast sky which has only skylight. The object of this study was to evaluate the effects of various prismatic panels' configurations on the interior daylighting condition under various sky conditions. The major variables related to the prismatic panels included prism's section angle, installation slope angle and the ratio of prismatic panel area to window frame area, the sun angle and the interior partitions. In this study, a series of parametric physical scale model measurements and RADIANCE simulations were conducted with the Photon Map algorithm. The results of this study will provide building designers with the design data at early design stages.
