Abstract
THE development of serologic methods for rubella is of considerable importance; a clinical diagnosis of rubella cannot be made reliably and the hazards of fetal infection with this virus are significant. Recently Stewart, et al. reported the successful application of the hemagglutination-inhibition technique to assay of rubella virus antibodies. With the use of red blood cells from 1-day-old chicks, the authors devised an hemagglutination-inhibition (HI) test which appeared to have the reliability and sensitivity of the standard neutralization test but was simpler, more rapid, and less expensive to perform. Sever and his associates have confirmed and extended these observations in an article which appears elsewhere in this issue.
