Abstract
The growth of the telephone system has been truly phenomenal, and forecasts show a continuing growth as new services such as data transfer, fascimile and mobile telephones are added. This chapter covers the major aspects of a telephone network: the technical organization of a network, basic telephone equipment, electronic telephones, digital telephones, and functions of a central office.
