Frequency of occurrence of various plants parasitic nematodes and root-rot fungi on groundnut in Punjab*

A survey of five major groundnut growing districts of Punjab State revealed the extensive distribution of root-knot nematode, Tylenchorhynchus vulgaris, Aphelenchus avenae and Siddiqia citri on this crop. Other important nematodes recorded were Pratylenchus thornei, P. zeae, Hoplolaimus indicus, Aphelenchoides aster. ocaudatus, Helicotylenchus elegans, Hemicycliophora punensis, Macroposthonia xenoplax and Xiphinema insigne. Fusarium solani, Neocosmospora vasinfecta and species of Aspergillus, Rhizoctonia and Penicillium were found to be often associated with root rot of groundnut in the State.
